The objective was to create an umbrella site for the corporate division of XTRA; design standards were developed for each subdivision to follow, and the structure was created so that each subdivision could be easily added. Each division would eventually to be incorporated into this umbrella structure, therefore it became essential that the navigation be as invisible as possible. This would allow each division a great deal of real estate for content.
A particular issue that marketing faced was that each division wanted a say in the selection of photographic images. There were 20 different people in six different divisions, all located in different geographical areas. To aid marketing from having this situation become an administrative nightmare, we built an application based on our templating engine, which allowed people to log in and vote on the 250 images in the bank. These votes were analyzed, prioritized and narrowed down to the selection of 30 images that were used on the site.
